We regard the term „open curriculum“ as a theoretical construct. As such, it can help us to distinguish between approaches to the system of teaching material that arc „more open“ or „more closed“ in actual educational reality. The „art and culture“ section of the framework educational programme offers us an example of differences in the semantics and structure of the language that the programme uses in its separate parts.We reflect on the curriculum of teacher education, its traditions and current direction.We devote special attention to the educational activities through which the student teacher is transformed from student to teacher.
