This article is focused on the very topical theme of the formulation of framework educational programmes for middle vocational schools. It provides brief information on the creation of framework educational programmes (RVP) for vocational education and their transformation into school educational programmes (ŠVP). In the framework of the Pilot S Programme schools draw up their own school education programme in collaboration with the National Institute of Vocational Education. 30 middle vocational schools and training centres from all over the Czech Republic are involved in the project which is to be completed by the year 2008. The major priorities of the reform of the contemporary school are the integration of education for sustainable growth into teaching and the strengthening of language training and education in information technology. The existence of what are known as cross-section themes in the framework education programme (RVP) proposed and approved for integration into school educational programmes will assist in the realisation of these priorities.
