Ethos is a term that refers to the underlying deep structure of a culture the values that animate it. Question of ethos in education and the related question of school improvement are very important, because we are concerned with creating schools. Schools that genuinely educate, that do justice to the capacitics of the minds that students possess and the kind of lives that they have the opportunity to ledad. It is the task of schools to provide them with opportunities to lead those lives. The paper concerns systemic and clinical aspects of school improvement. The conceptual structure has five dimenssions: intentional, structural, curricular, pedagogical, evaluative. The quality of education and the nature of the culture in a school are the more fundamental issues then quantitative ones. One of the very important features of education when it is real and deap, is the kind of satisfaction that teachers and pupils experience from taking the journey.
