The article is a contribution to the discussion of the theme of the transcendence of the human being. One understanding of this term, which forms part of the personality-orientated philosophy of education of Z. Helus, is explored in detail. The author seeks to show that this is not something remote or decontextualised from the educational milieu, because it is a part of every personality and its development. She presents the substantial content of the concept, the form of realisation of the transcendent activity of the individual, some prospects for contemporary education and an appeal for efforts to be made to help the pupil discover his own transcendence.
