In the first part of this overview study the author considers the definition and implica-tions of the term, „the development of the teacher“, which he looks at primarily from a psychological perspective. He offers a basic division of the term into narrower and broader concepts of the development of the teacher (and not only as a professional) each involving educational, psychological and social aspects perspectives in different degrees. The article then presents some narrower psychological concepts of the development of the teacher, which derive primarily from the application of the general developmental stages of the individual, and also narrower educational concepts focused primarily on the development of knowledge, skills and capacities. The narrower educational concepts usually represent a division of development into different stages or levels and are often considered to be the development (growth) of the teacher per se. The conclusion of the article offers a critical evaluation of the narrower concepts and suggests their limitations.
