The article is concerned with the theme of e-learning, which it approaches from a number of different perspectives. It considers both the starting-points of e-learning - the educational- didactic field and the technological field, and the definition of the two key terms - e-learning a blended learning. It also looks at educational policy at the national and international level, because it is this that creates the broad framework not only for current activities but also for the future development of e-learning. The final section deals with the strong and weak sides of e-learning, indicating potential avenues of development and potential barriers to the use of ICT in education. The article likewise refers to several possible fields of educational research.
