This article consideres two sets of problems that are emerging as a challenge for educational theory and research: (1) The question of information and communications media (ICT), employed today in various educational environments. The author draws attention to the fact that while numerous attempts are underway to introduce ICT media into school and other forms of education, there has as yet been no successful systematic and synthesising integration of these activities into teaching theory (didactics), or psychodidactics. (2) The same applies to the question of new forms in education, i.e. the various educational processes in the field of adult education that are moving beyond established organisation forms of teaching as applied in the school education of young people. The article takes the form of discussion and its aim is both to introduce the subject of this thematically unified number and to stimulate educational theorists into reacting more intensively to the new challenges in educational praxis.
