In the article, the significance of the game from the perspective o f developmental aspects of the child is emphasised. Individual stages in the development of a child and characteristic features of games at those stages are dealt with. The article also deals with the difference in the games’ nature according to sex. From the perspective of a child analyst, the game has both a diagnostic and therapeutic significance. The game’s impairment or the failure to develop it indicates a severe damage in the mental development of a child. The article discusses practical examples of games from clinic practice, in which they have the role of facilitating development, where they express the emotional situation of the child. Yet finally, destructive tendencies o f the patient are transferred into the game as well.
