The article points to a great social significance of the identification of pupils’ giftedness for the further development of their best abilities and performances. Therefore, the goal of the underlying research was designing a simple and easy, pedagogically feasible method of relatively reliable identification of pupil’s giftedness to study English. The article presents current definitions of giftedness, recent development, a survey of identification criteria out with the sample of 430 pupils of two secondary and one primary schools in Ostrava. Techniques used included nominations by peers, teachers, parents, inventories of interests, etc. Pupils’ intellectual abilities, out-of-school-abilities and creativity were examined and a model of a pupil gifted in English was created.
