Self-determinated motivation theory (Deci - Ryan 1985, 1995) when applied to the realm of education, is concerned primarily with promoting in pupils/students an interest in learning, a valuing of education, and confidence in their own capacities. These outcomes are manifestations of being intrinsically motivated and internalizing/values and regulatory process. Review of the body of research has corroborated high quality learning in this field as well as enhaced personal growth and adjustment.
