At the time of introduction of changes in the system of care of gifted children in elementary schools, efficiency of the process depends i.a. on the competence of teachers, on their knowledge of the issues involved in giftedness and on their attitudes to them. The paper provides the first account of a pilot study aimed at establishing some of the teachers' attitudes to gifted children’s education. These were traced in their answers to a questionnaire and in group discussions. Primary attention was paid to the identification of attitudes to integrated and separated education of the talented and specific features in education the gifted. Involved in the preliminary research were 85 teachers from different schools in Prague.
