This study is concerned with the role of textbooks in the process of implementation of curricular reform. Using the example of selected learning tasks in geography textbooks, the authors seek to establish whether these tasks provide an opportunity for the development and achievement of the expected outputs defined in the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education (RVP ZV). The research sample consisted of 399 learning tasks from three geography textbooks currently in use. The main method was content analysis involving assessment of the coherence between the RVP ZV and the textbooks. In concrete terms this meant comparing the requirements for working with the learning material placed on the pupil in the learning tasks in the textbooks and in the relevant expected outputs of the RVP ZV.
