The article starts from the two contributions in the last number concerning the new conpection of teaching the Russian language. It draws attention to the necessity of accepting a solution of the questiop, which concerns the aim of teaching, from the standpoint of social requirements of today and from the perspectives of social development. In contrary to the fact that the aim is devided into the practical and the educationally.cultural one, it lays stress on that in the socialist society the education and culture is of the same practical importance as the fact of affording knowledges, abilities and habits. The starting point 6f the determination of the aim is the social need of mastering the Russian Language and the ftinction of the process of learning when educating a pupil. From the social need of mastering the Russian language follows that all the forms, showing the language as means of imderstanding should be the aim; it does not correspond the accent on mere reading.
