Karel Starý

 

Karel Starý is a member of the Institute for Research and Development of Education at the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague. He works mainly in the field of teachers’ professional development, formative assessment, reading literacy, general and social science didactics and qualitative methodology. He teaches qualitative research methods for doctoral students and classes, as well as professional development of teachers for master’s students. His recent work has been focused on issues of formative assessment of students in social science classes. His main interest is also on effective teaching methods in reading, cognitive and affective aspects of comprehension in reading literacy, approaches to teaching and evaluation of teaching.

Karel has been involved in several research and development projects on a national and international level. He is currently leading the project Formative Assessment through Educational Objectives and is involved in a major longitudinal study in the Czech Republic (CLoSE – Czech Longitudinal Study in Education).
