Annotation:
In the theory and practice of the educational work at school workshops one meets, under the most varied circumstances, with a number of complex problems involving the pupils’ self-assertion and development of their knowledge. Development of the pupils’ knowledge is the basic prerequisite of their conscious and creative work, which is one of the main components of the aim and role of handwork instruction at the Basic Nine-Year School. The solution of the pedagogical aspect of these complex problems presupposes an inquiry into the substance of the process of learning, an analysis as to what is specific for this development in individual spheres and sections of the subject-matter, which ways and means lead to the best possible results and what principal problems have to be coped with. A rough analysis of the main sections of the educational work at school workshops points out the main possibilities of developing the pupils’ knowledge. The analysis proceeds from material gathered together mainly by research at experimental schools and supplemented by the study of literature dealing with the problems involved.
