In this article the authors deal with the basic theories of the development of abilities and investigate the possibilities of assessing the abilities by means of conventional tests of intellectual maturity of a personality. It appears that a decisive and really objective yardstick of abilities is the conventional grading of pupils attainment at school. The tests may help in analysing the conditions and factors affecting pupils’ results at school. Hence their prognostic value. The authors have described the model of a general determinant of abilities, which is the basis of abilities.
