Annotation:
According to the results of an analysis the appraisal of the pupils’ attainment at school is, on the one hand, a source of the pupil’s moral knowledge, on the other hand, a mediating criterion of the truthfulness and correctness of the pupil’s knowledge. This appraisal, being felt as a prospective reward or as a herald of secondary effects, provides a motive for learning, either desirable or undesirable. Together with checking up on the pupil’s work the appraisal strength6ns or inhibits the temporarily formed associations. It provides the teacher with the means of influencing the course and the tempo of instruction, because it is very effective in making the educational aims concrete for the pupil. If the appraisal of pupils is further elaborated, it may inform parents and the general public about educational results and it may serve as a prognostic of the pupil’s further development. The purpose of the appraisal in a socialist school is not only to characterise the pupil accurately, but also to influence the pupil in accordance with the aim of education. The principle of the harmonious and dynamic unity of classroom appraisal is the principle of the general appraisal of pupils, it brings the contents of classroom appraisal into harmony with the general educational aim and gives sense to individual tasks which the appraisal of pupils at school has.
