Boys and 47 percent of girls, truancy (33 per cent of boys, and 48 per cent of girls), sexual depravity (5 per cent of boys and 25 per cent of girls), aggressive and destructive trends (21 per cent of boys and 5 per cent of girls), mendacity (13 per cent of boys and 12 per cent of girls), smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages (10 per cent of boys and 13 per cent of girls), incendiarism (1 per cent of boys). The causes giving rise to misbehaviour and delinquency are usually unsuitable external influences: defective upbringing (63 per cent of children), abnormal family structure (51 per cent of children), alcoholism of family members (21 per cent of children), the burden of family members (10 per cent of children), the parents being too busy (9 per cent of children), criminality of family members (5 per cent of children), circumstances of a social character (4 per cent of children). In conclusion the authors suggest the possibilities and pre-requisites for re-educating these children. First of all, a careful selection of the staff of educators is necessary, then the raising of the professional qualification of the staff, and finally creating the best possible psycho-social atmosphere of the collective educational establishments to create a substitute for the psycho-social atmosphere of a good family.
