(EN) Internationalist Education at the Basic Nine-Year School

In the introductory part of the article the author explains the importance of educating children in the spirit of socialist patriotism and proletarian internationalism. At the same time he points out that in the period of the personality cult a deeper elaboration of these questions was being neglected. He analyses the methods and forms of internationalist education at school as well as in after-school educational work and he comes to the conclusion that the principle of educational purposefulness is not being sufficiently observed, that we content ourselves with only quantitative results and do not pass on to more profound, qualitative activities which would train the pupils in correct internationalist attitudes and views. A necessary pre-requisite for improving internationalist education is the gradual elimination of formalism, which has been spreading in educational practice. This can be achieved by improving the quality of directing work of the higher educational authorities as well as that of the Czechoslovak Union of Youth organs.
