Annotation:
The article presents the results of a research survey, conducted in May and June 2005, about the range of educational courses on offer for adults in the Czech Republic. We analysed the range of adult education courses publicised by different institutions, 0rganisations and firms. Using the research survey we wanted to map the existing sup- P‘y of such courses as they are presented to Potential clients on web pages, which are today the main sources of information on educational opportunities. Our aim was not, however, to produce and exhaustive over- V|ew of institutions or specific courses. The research sample consisted of all the educational events found on the web pages o f all high er vocational schools, private universities and non-profit organisations. By educational event“ we meant any kind of „dependent, separately offered educational Un‘t (e.g. course, seminar, lecture series etc.) Explicitly aimed at adults and characterised У information such as title, educational f a l s , content and form of study, criteria or selection of participants, students, nume r of hours, dates etc. The facts that emerged about the range of National events for adults in the Czech Public reflect a number of specific developmental circumstances. Private education- nstitutions predominate among provide but schools (above all middle and highv° cational schools). In the sample of courses studied, current trends in adult education were evident above all in the expansion of combined and distance studies, and educational response to change in various specific professions. The range of adult educational possibilities advertised on the Internet in the Czech Republic is relatively large and diverse, but it is also rather unclear from the point of view of the client. The researchers themselves found it quite difficult to find their way around the information or choose the right search strategies. In this context we naturally became interested in the question of the accessibility of the information and the ways that it reaches the public. Databases that list the services of different providers seem to offer one solution, but in each case it turned out the mode of presentation was inconsistent and details often lacking, so that even a person with a serious interest in adult education would find the process of search difficult.
