Education of Gypsies is one of the serious problems of our school system, which used to be and still is often solved by the integration of the majority of Gypsy primary school population in special schools where they are transferred for the reason of bad school results. The specific educational needs of Gypsies, however, are often not the question of the lower intelectual abilities, they are more often caused by ill-disposed family background. The special schools are still better prepared for the compensation of the unfavourable conditions and the specific Gypsies‘ needs, but on the other hand they limit children‘s further education and professional perspectives. A higher level of education of Gypsies could be reached only by creation of conditions suitable for all Gypsy pupils able to cope with (maybe with the help of professionals) the proper educational programme.
