The subject of the paper is the analysis of the statements about the teachers given in the interviews with the ninth grade students of the Czech basic school. How the meaning of teacher’s attributes change depending on the context of the discourse is presented on the theme of a good vs. "strict" teacher. Three poles emerge in the analysis that seem to structure the inevitable space in which the teacher operates, thus forming his specific authority as a teacher.
