Klíčová slova / Key words: mezinárodní srovnávací výzkum, matematická a přírodovědný výchova
Článek informuje jednak o IES, jednak o TIMSS.
Annotation:
The International Association of the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (lEA) is an independent international cooperative of research centres. For over thirty years, lEA conducts a series of major international comparative studies in education (mathematics, science, reading literacy, written composition, civic education, computers in education etc.).
The Third Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) currently conducted by lEA will be the major international assessment activity during 1990s. It will not only measure students achievement in mathematics and science internationally, but will also investigate differences in curriculum and instruction, and include alternative assessment options. TIMSS focuses on three levels of the school system: the grade or level at which most students attain the age of nine, the grade or level at which the students attain the age of thirteen, and the population of students completing the last year of secondary education. One of the studies for the latter population concentrates on scientific and mathematical attainments of students completing secondary school with some degree of specialization in either mathematics or science. There are two international options for participating countries: one of them is concerned with an in-depth investigation of students problem solving strategies, the other examines the linkage between teaching practices and changes in students achievement and attitudes.
The Czech Republic is one of more than sixty countries participating in TIMSS. After a brief information on lEA, the authors review the conceptual framework for MSS, its project, goals and research questions, with regard to participation of the Czech Republic.
