In the article information about the method of the meta-analysis is presented, this method not having been applied yet in the Czechoslovak educational research. In the first part the principle of the metaanalysis as a means of research as well as its main features are explained, and that on the base of methodological works on the meta-analysis published mainly in the U.S.A. The relations between the primary, secondary and the meta-analyses are determined. The definition of the meta-analysis (according Glass, 1976), is formulated as follows: The meta-analysis is a statistical evaluation of a big set of analytical results of individual researches conducted with the purpose to integrate the research results.
In the second part some concrete examples of the meta-analysis results are described and that in the research of different kinds of the learning effectivity, and in the research of the influence of different factors on the results of education and others.
The third part presents possibilities of applying the meta-analysis in the CzechoSlovak educational research, especially in the respect of issuing this method for practical purposes (in the sphere of evaluating the resulte and the effects of the school system). The reader’s attention is drawn to the reasons which prevent the meta-analysis from being applied in the Czechoslovak educational research.
