Elena Maróthy-ŠoItés (6. 1. 1855 — 11. 2. 1939), a significant Slovak writer and women movement organizer of the end of the 19th century and of the first two decades of the 20th century, is less known or isn’t known at all to the pedagogic public as a pedagogic thinker, organizer and founder of Slovak schools for girls, and as a pioneer of Czechoslovak solidarity.
The article concerns basic data about the life and work of Elena Maróthy-Šoltés and the evaluation of her book "My children": of her pedagogic ideas expressed especially in this book. The paper deals with her effort to build up a Slovak schools for giris before the Czechoslovak republic came into being and the implementation of her long life wish in the newly created Czechoslovak republic. The end of the article evaluates Elena Maróthy-Šoltés contribution to the history of Slovak pedagogy.
This Slovak writer, although not a professional pedagogue, was very interested in the questions of education, which resultes from the article. Her interest can be mostly seen in her masterwork "My children" in which Elena Mar6thy-Solt6s described the physical and psychic development of her two children — daughter Elen and son Ivan.
The effort to build up the Slovak schools for giris under Austro-Hungarian monarchy in the last quarter of the 19th century and the begining of the 20th century, and implementation of this effort in the Czechoslovak republic after 1918 form the important part of her pedagogic activity.
