In his contribution the author deals with the theoretical problems of directing the process of human learning. He bases his observations on the fact that the process of adoption proper cannot be separated from a systematic formation of the thinking and the development of student’s personality. Proceeding from this point of view he finds a source for the solution of the given problems in the theory of teaching of the Soviet psychologist P. Y. Gal’perin. In more detail he experimentally investigates the relations of the material basis of activity of the process of adoption to the depth of the understanding of the substance of the curriculum. He formulates the following hypothesis for work: Were the newly formulated intellectual activity programmed and in stages consistently realized in the pedagogical process according to the theory on the formation of the intellectual activity and were a special stress put on the stage of materialization, then the study results of students who were being prepared according to this program will be of a better quality and more lasting than of those students who were being prepared according to the system hitherto used, especially as far as their comprehension of the principle of the activity or the phenomenon contained in the given subject matter was concerned, without taking more of the time assigned to the process of adoption of the subject matter.
The author verifies this hypothesis on the subject of descriptive geometry and engineering drawing. The results of performed pedagogical experiments almost univocally proved the given hypothesis by 0.05.
In the concluding part of his contribution the author summarizes the acquired information which confirms the importance of the material basis of activity and concentration on the basic teaching matter.
