The basic methodological starting points for handling the problem of integrating the vocational and general components of education at the Secondary Vocational Training School are considered by the author of this study to be the following:
— all-round harmonious development of the pupil’s personality
— crucial and irreplaceable place of science in the scientific and technological progress (the manufacturing process is increasingly becoming a technological application of science),
— gradual integration of knowledge and practical activities.
From the viewpoint of the above-mentioned starting points the author delimits the place and function of individual components of education at the Secondary Vocational Training School (general and polytechnical education, vocational theoretical education and practical training).
In delimiting the place and function of individual components of education from the viewpoint of their mutual integration the author concentrates, above all, on the content of education at the general level and also shows the possibilities of integrating individual components of education in the teaching process itself.
The author pays particular attention to the practical part of the training (vocational training), the function of which in preparing the youth for manual occupations is the most essential and cannot be substituted by anything else. Research, in the framework of individual themes of the partial task, is also being primarily directed to this field.
