Annotation:
Professor Juraj Čečetka, PhDr., is one of the founders, pioneers and leading representatives of Slovak pedagogy in Czechoslovakia. His extensive scientific interests guided him first to psychology and then to pedagogy. He made himself known am ong the Slovak educationists, teachers and the culturti public at large by his extensive scientific writings (he wrote 24 books, 32 studies in scientific volumes, about 400 articles and reviews in journals) and as a professor of pedagogy at the Faculty of Arts in the Comenius University in Bratislava. He is the author of the first Slovak higher education text books of pedagogy, which were used by a whole generation of prospective secondary school teachers. He wrote a number of valuable monographs on the history of Slovak pedagogy, several outstanding studies about Comenius, rem arkable works in the field of sociology of education. There is no such pedagogical discipline that he should not have tackled in an inspiring manner. He belongs to the generation of Slovak educationists who were educated in the schools of the bourgeois Czechoslovak Republic, but it was a generation which was close to the working people among whom it was born and for whose benefit it worked. As regards Professor Čečetka, what also deserves positive appraisal is his very good relationship to the fraternal Czech nation, the roots of which go back especially to the times of his studies at the Charles University in Prague. The developm ent of his scientific personality was positively influenced by a num ber of Czech professors. Juraj Čečetka’s w ork is a positive contribution to the Slovak pedagogical theory.
