The prognosis of the structure and position of science and technical subjects on the curriculum of the secondary general school in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (i. e. a school for the 14 to 18—year- olds providing general education) was part of a research into the prospective system of communist education (intellectual and moral) in the socialist society within the framework of the task of State Plan VIII-5-4) The prognosis was oriented to the period about the year 2000 and proceeded from theoretical and empirical researches carried out within the framework of partial tasks VIII-5-4/1 and VIII-5-4/2.) On the basis of the results of the reseiarch it is possible to suppose that there will be no substantial changes in the structure and the time alloted to science and technical subjects; but it is possible to expect some partial changes resulting from the transition to a ten-year general education basis and involving a new function of the top forms (grades) of the secondary school, which ought to concentrate mainly on preparing students for higher education with greater stress being laid on science and technical fields of study; they should also concentrate on preparing students for further education in vocational courses as well as for entering employment on leaving school.
