This article consists of four parts and the conclusion. Part one gives a brief account of the development of secondary ecucation of skilled workers after the completion of their industrial training, practically all of which has been provided by the Secondary School for Working People (i. e. people in full-time employment). Since its foundation the secondary school has gone through several fundamental stages of development involving changes in the curriculum and organization. Gradually three variants of secondary school have emerged.
Part two defines the place which the secondary school occupies in the educational system, its function being brought into relationship with adult education.
Part three outlines the new conception of the secondary school (third variant), which came into being in accordance with the Document on the Czechoslovak Education System, and gives the caracteristics of its content.
Part four deals with the conditons of skilled workers schooling which takes place while they are in full-time employment, i. e. it deals with such problems as classroom attendance, conditions of study at the workplace, at homfe and the possibilities of preparing for classes.
The concluding part refers to further development of this type of education.
From the point of view of past development and practical contribution the secondary school is regarded as a type of school that has a future and is looked upon as providing adult schooling with a significant mission connected with the overall trend of development of the national economy.
