The urgent need to Solve the questions concerning correlations between subjects just at present results not only from the shortcomings appearing in the knowledge of pupils but, above all, from the present and future needs of society.
This article analyses the consequences of the powerful technical development of modern production in our society and points out new features in the development of scientific knowledge. The author comes to the conclusion that certain characteristic features of our our school, such as lack of co-ordination and isolation of knowledge, are at variance with these tendencies. She understands the question of correlations between subjects to be one of the im portant problems of a methodological character. This problem involves the very content of teaching and education as well as the basic conception of methodological processes in classroom instruction and the manner of co-operation among the teaching staff.
Then she goes on to discuss especially the the problems concerning the conception and guidance of the teaching process from the viewpoint of forming correlations between subjects and a synthesis of knowledge. In doing so, she considers not only the aspect of content, i. e. search for real material correlations between various provinces, of reality. At the same time she also emphasises the necessity to arrive at a higher standard of internal processes of thinking, to develop the power of generalizing, synthetic, independent thinking of pupils.
The author finds that the conception of subject-matter also calls for a new solution, with a proper look ahead in the direction of social and scientific development, because, so far the solution of the question of subject-matter has been hampered by tradition and has consisted mostly in partial alterations, suffering from lack of boldness in looking ahead.
In conclusion, the author mentions some aspects of the modern view on the teacher’s work. She stresses the necessity for the teacher’s work to be more of a complex and collective character. It is necessary to overcome the isolation of teachers-specialists.
