In this articles the author acquaints us with the views of an outstanding Polish educationalist, Janusz Korczak (1878—1942), on the education of children. He analyses the main features of his educational system , which was put into practice in the children's homes managed by Janusz Korczak. In conclusion the author points out the progressive aspects of Korczak’s pedagogical heritage, above all his demand that pedagogical conclusions should be based on an empiric basic of practice, on a thorough analysis of facts ; that the positive force of public opinion of the children ’s collective should be made use of in the educational process and so should the personal responsibilities of children and useful work for the community.
