(EN) Some Experiences in Placing Children and Youth into Educative and Curative Institutions

The author gives some experiences in placing children and youth into educative and curative institutions. He stresses the importance of psychological observation and examination. It has been established that placing children and youth on acount of mere external symptoms of behaviour without deeper psychological analysis of the causes of behaviour meets with educational difficulties in these institutions. The author gives examples of different types of defects with the same or similar external forms of behaviour.
Difficulties in dealing with epHeptical children, children after encephalitis and meningitis, immobile, idiotic and imbecile children are also discussed. Various combined types of defects are also difficult to deal with.
The author has made an attempt to classify contemporary educative and curative institutions according to defects, or diseases. He recommends to establish progressively an institution of psychological specialists in the educational system. Placing children into the above institutions is a matter of collaboration of psychologist, shoolmaster, pediatrist, psychiatrist aiid social worker. With the psychologist, however, a special university de^ee in psychology and practical experiences are necessary; not only a schoolmaster’s degree or similar (e. g. degree in laws, engineering, social services etc.).
