The linking up of instruction with productive work tops the educational and instructional process of the socialist General Educational School. But it is being solved from the very beginning of instruction in a system where three basic component parts can be distinguished besides the subjects of general instruction: education for manual work, polytechnical instruction, and productive work.
The education for manual work in working activities of a wider ch aracter prepares the growing-up generation for manual work in the socialist society, gives them skills and habits necessary for work in general, leads to the form ation of a general working skill of pupils, instils love and respect for work, fosters a conscious attitude towards work and its results. Polytechnical instruction is to acquaint the youth, in theory as well as in practice, with the essentials of the most important branches of socialist production. And the third component part, the participation of the youth in productive work, is to give the pupils a certain kind of ability for skilled manual work.
The article deals in detail with the content and some of the problems involved in these three component parts at different stages of the General Educational School and with their implementation at experimental Twelve-Year Schools.
The whole system of education and the system of working activities tending to provide for the linking up of instruction with productive work is being realised in dialectical relations of the general, the particular and the unique, the abstract and the concrete, theory and practice, with the aim to fulfil the main task set forth by the Xlth Congress of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia — to prepare universally educated people, who will have mastered the essentials of science and technique, who will be able to do skilled manual work and will be prepared to take a conscious part in the building up of communist society.
