The aim of this paper was to account for the function of educational activities, point out their place in the system of communist education, show some connections between educational activities and classroom instruction and outline the possibilities of the practical realization of the educational activities. The study contains an analysis of the main problems involved in linking up classroom instruction and moral education with the requirements of life, and the solution of these problems may contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the process of forming the scientific world outlook as an important motivation factor in people’s social initiative at work and otherwise, and to further developing the theory of education of children and young people. A conception understood in this way aims at propping up classroom instruction by many-sided educational activities outside the classroom and outside school, it elaborates the content of the educational activities, which is formed by varied activities resulting from the nature of the educational aims and tasks. It further deals with the educational activities from the viewpoint of the child’s own needs, by means of which the promotion of the needs of society as a whole is aimed at Of extraordinary significance, from the viewpoint of social development, is the field of socially useful activities of pupils, the problems involved being dealt with in the second part of the article, especially from the viewpoint of their practical realization. The complex of problems concerning educational activities is, to a considerable extent, still unclarified, one of the causes being insufficient theoretical and practical elaboration and insufficient elaboration of the specific character of educational activities. One of the ways of contributing to the clarification of this complex of problems is to be seen, among other things, in the clarification of the basic inter-relations and connections between individual means of education in the narrow sense.
