Annotation:
After a brief survey of Vives’s work the author concentrates on the influence exerted by Vives on educational practice in the pre-White-Mountain period (i. e. before 1620). The sources of his study were school regulations, which contained the didactic principles and aims of the pre-White-Mountain municipal (particular) school, maintained by municipalities. These schools were run in the Utraquist spirit and not under the influence of Lutheranism and they served 'the interests of Czech burghers.
The author proves that instruction in the Czech pre-White-Mountain particular school was influenced by Vives more than by any other humanist, and that Vives’s didactic processes influenced ‘the teaching of Latin and his pedagogic views influenced the upbringing of the pupil. He refutes the opinion that the Czech school was directly influenced by the German Lutheran school, which is an opinion still to be found in various works dealing with the history of pedagogy. This fact is also important for Comenian studies.
