The author writes about the impact of the Slovak National Uprising on the sphere of education. On September 6, 1944 the Slovak National Council, as the supreme political body of the Uprising, nationalized all the schools in Slovakia. That was an important turning point in the development of Slovak education when one takes into account the strong positions of clericalism and the great number of clerical schools that had been there in the past. The nationalization of the was of treble significance for the further development of the conditions in Slovakia and actually in the whole of Czechoslovakia:
1. It contributed to the creation of the unity of the Slovak nation in the antifascist struggle.
2. It mobilized the Slovak teachers not only to participate in the uprising, but also for the further struggle for the democratic unity of the schools after the liberation; it stimulated the teachers to participate in the socialist construction.
The nationalization created favourable conditions for the complete educational reform in Czechoslovakia. Education could be made democratic by uniform schools, all teachers could receive university education, all the respective elements of the educational system in Slovakia could develop rapidly.
