The basic ideas of this article were pronounced and discussed at the first Czechoslovak-Soviet seminar, which was organized by the Comenius Pedagogical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague in April 1975. The author proceeds from the resolution of the 14th Congress qf the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and from the resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia of July, 1973, and gives a survey of the problems concerning the development of the Czechoslovak educational system in the state and departmental research plans in the 5th Five-Year Plan. Special attention is paid to the research into the system of education in Czechoslovakia, which was co-ordinated by the Comenius Pedagogical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The second chapter deals with some features of the prospective lifelong system of communist education (intellectual and moral) in Czechoslovakia. The following points are considered: the unity of the general and specialized development of the individual in the process of an all-round and harmonious moulding of man in a socialist society, the unity of communist education and the formative influences of the environment, the unity of ideology, science, culture, production, work and life in the process of communist education, the democratization of education, the linking-up of school with life, the education of the individual in a group, by the group and for the group, the unity of intellectual and moral education in the process of communist education, the unity of general, polytechnical and vocational education, the unity of education and self- education, and finally the unity of education of the individual in the period of adolescence and adult life. The third chapter deals with some problems of the Czechoslovak general education, working and polytechnical school and its further development. The author characterizes this school as the fundamental link in the system of communist education in Czechoslovakia, describes its functions and the vertical three-stage structure and the horizontal structure. He goes on to discuss the structure of the general aim of communist education (including intellectual and moral aims) and to show the concrete meaning of these aims at individual stages of the general education school. In accordance with these aims he characterizes the system of the curriculum, conditions and means at the general education, working and polytechnical school and suggests some problems for further researches in this field.
