The study analyses the content and the significance of Comenius’ conception of education as a life-dong process involving individuals as well as whole social groups, as it can be found especially in the individual volumes of Comenius’ largest work “General Consultation on the Reform of Human Affairs”. It draws attention to the roots of this conception, which also appears in elements of the development of the Czech pedagogical tradition before Comenius. Then it traces the development of the conception of education in Comenius, as regards its formulation as well as the content: From his earliest pedagogical works, in connection with the growth of his idea of pansophia, with the deepening of tlhe pansop'hical content of education — omnes, omnia, omnino — to his proposals for “cultura universalis”, for a universal reform of all men, as it is expressed in his General Consultation on the Reform of Human Affairs. The study shows the breadth of Comenius’ conception of education as the cultivation of all the relationships of man to the world, mainly social relationships.
