(EN) The Activities of the Ministry of Education and Culture in the Years 1945—1946

On the basis of official decrees and measures of the supreme State bodies, the author deals with the Ministry of Education and Culture’s work in the period when the Ministry was headed by Professor Zdeněk Nejedly, showing that this work was not confined to repairing the damage caused by Nazi occupation and to rehabilitating schools and cultural institutions, but it also aimed at a fundamental reform of education and cultural life in keeping with principles embodied in the Košice Government Programme. The exchange of the head of the Ministry, which took place after the 1946 general election could not reverse the course of development embarked upon, but it did delay the implementation of the reforms and changes envisaged.
