This paper gives a survey of the contemporary state of health education at our Basic Nine-Year Schools. The purpose of this study was to deal with the present problems, aims, conditions, content and methods of health education. On the basis of an analysis of selected literature the author deals, above all, with the aims of health education at schools. The basic aims of this education include the formation of hygienic habits, personal and collective hygiene, providing pupils with anatomical, physiological and hygienic information concerning the constitution and function of human body, and finally arousing pupils’ health consciousness and interest in health problems. A comparison of health education in our country with that in other countries shows its universality and universal validity in spite of differing social conditions. In the chapter dealing with the conditions of health education of the pupils, the state of health of the pupil population is briefly characterized as being a significant inner condition of health education; other factors and sources of health education at school are also given and the shortcomings of hygienic care are pointed out. A general programme of health education is out lined in 16 thematic groups. This gives rise to a system the focus of which is in two t basic areas: the area of movement and that of mental hygiene. This section is organically followed by a chapter about methods, forms and media of health education dealt with from the educational and hygienic viewpoint. On the basis of an analysis of the questions dealt with the author draws conclusions and makes recommendations, being aware of the fact that the contemporary school assumes an ever-increasing responsibility for the health education of the pupils. There still proved to be a great many shortcomings in the theoretical study questions concerning health education our children and youth, and its practice1 application proved to be unfavourably influenced also by the fact that little attention was paid to applying education principles. The purpose of this paper was to > the hygienic aspect increasingly felt № school life by strengthening, systemized and promoting health education of pupils in such a way as to make it one of the contributions to the pedagogical modernization of the Basic Nine-Year School.
