Annotation:
Twenty years of the development of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic is an occasion for rendering accounts and prospective planning in the field of our physical education, too, where many serious problems, having matured, call for general changes of our system of physical education. These changes should be based not only on the development analyses, but also on a critical and open analysis of contemporary concrete shortcomings and their causes, and theory should supply concrete directives for improvement. In the first place, we should, solve the basic problems of our physical education, such as the function of the State in the physical education system, the structure of the physical education process and the basic forms of physical education, and the problem of mass participation in our physical education; these problems are therefore dealt with here in separate chapters. In order to be able to try and outline a perspective of a comprehensive reorganization of the socialist system of our physical education in the next two decades, it is necessary to lay down the principles for this future development. If we proceed from the most general ones, the principles will be the following:
1. The principle of socialist unity of our physical education.
2. The principle of democratization of our physical education.
3. The principle of differentiation between physical education of the youth and that of adults, and respecting the basic forms of physical education.
4. The principle of physical education being organized so as to meet individual interests and the principle of obligations to physical education.
5. The principle of socialist patriotism in physical education.
6. Voluntary work in physical education to be regarded as patriotic work.
7. The principle of scientific management of physical education.
8. The principle of a perfect and flexible organization of physical education.
9. The principle of one hour of P. T. a day for all the youth.
10. For mass participation — for records in sports.
11. Suitable physical education helps to combat ageing.
12. Every good athlete is a trainer — every good sportsman is a coach.
13. Every school has a gymnasium and an open-air athletic field — every locality has sufficient facilities for physical training and sport. Observing these principles, we can try to design a better organizational pattern of the system of our physical education and its components.
