The world cultural anniversaries include the 500th anniversary of Erasmus of Rotterdam’s birth. In an article commemorating this anniversary the author has tried
1. to show what is at the disposal of Czech readers of today in the Czech language to acquaint them with the life and work of Erasmus of Rotterdam,
2. to recall the way Erasmus of Rotterdam has been appraised in the Czech publications on pedagogical history in the 20th century compared with recent foreign pedagogical literature,
3. to give general information about recent publications on Erasmus of Rotterdam in foreign literature. The 20th century literature about Erasmus of Rotterdam is rich and varied both in treatment and approach. The differences result from the technical or philosophical orientation of the authors.
