(EN) An Attempt at Studying Social Relationships and Analysing Popular Individuals at a Children's Home

A sociometric examination of a group of inmates of a Children’s Home has shown that the study of social relationships helps to deepen psychological diagnostics, especially as regards understanding the position of an individual in a group, which can, with regard to the configuration of relationships in a group of working people, be analysed by means of further psychological methods. An attempt has been made at a psychological analysis of popular and unpopular individuals. It seems that the most important basis of a certain individual’s popularity is the character of his social behaviour. Intelligence and school results have appeared to be of little consequence. Other parameters that have been studied (psychomotor tempo, figure and neatness of appearance, attainment, intellect and subordination to adults) cannot be interpreted as an equivocally as that. The study of social relationships helps to outline the perspectives of re-education, when it can be the basis of a positive designation of social relationships with regard to individual characteristics of the children including the form of their delinquency.
