This article presents a selective overview of translations of foreign literature on the upbringing of children published on our book market in the 1990s, and thus documents the breadth and variety of individual approaches to the theme. For the purposes of this study we decided to concentrate on mapping translations of foreign books to which Czech parents had no access in the previous period, and the 1990s represent a breakthrough specifically from the point of view of access to other than domestic information sources. In view of the great variety and breadth of the spectrum of approaches, starting points and forms of treating the theme, we tried to find classificatory criteria to clarify the whole area explored. In the final part of the study we present a proposal for a possible form of family upbringing at the end of the twentieth century in the CR based on analysis of the recommendations contained in handbooks on upbringing for parents.
