Annotation:
This Study deals with the work of teachers’ organizations in Slovakia and with teachers’ pedagogical views expressed in the pedagogical press in the bourgeois Republic of Czechoslovakia (i. e. in the inter-war period). The ideas of a working school penetrated also into the curricula and syllabi of the elementary and junior secondary school. American reformist ideas became a model for the construction of the bourgeois educational system.
The study brings a brief analysis of the press organs of individual associations and a choice of the essential characteristics of each of the organizations. The study deals with teachers’ organizations and their press organs respectively, such as the Provincial Teachers’ Associalion and its press organ the Slovak Teacher, the Union of Slovak Teachers and the National Slovak School, the Association of Evangelical Teachers and its journal the Evangelical Teacher, and finally Slovak Schoolmasters’ Association and a Miscellany of the Slovak Schoolmasters’ Association.
The press organs speak about what caused the associations to come into being, about their ideological, pedagogical, social and professional mission. The variability of views expressed in them in the ideological field fits with the conception of bourgeois liberalism and the views of some political parties of the pre-Munich Czechoslovak Republic. From the pedagogical angle, the journals inform us especially about the didactic work, typical of that period.
