The aim of this study was to discover same of the typical features of the teaching plans in Soviet schools. Therefore the first to be analysed were the teaching plans of Russian grammar schools of 1864, 1870 and 1914, and then those of Soviet secondary schools of 1935, 1948 and 1953. The analysis concerned the construction and proportionality of the subjects in these teaching plans. By proportionality we mean the mutual proportion of the number of hours assigned to each of the four basic groups of subjects, viz. languages, social subjects, natural science, and technical-educational subjects. Proportionality is expressed by the ratio of indexes. The indexes are the sums of hours assigned to the subjects of the respective groups, divided by the sum of hours assigned to technical-educational subjects.
A comparison between the teaching plans of tsarist and Soviet secondary schools has shown that in the Soviet unified secondary school natural science and technical-skill subjects prevail over languages and social subjects. An analysis of the teaching plans with regard to individual cycles has further indicated that in Soviet schools the mother tongue and arithmetic prevail in the first teaching cycle, the second cycle has a natural science-social character, the third cycle a natural science-language character.
When evaluating the individual plans, viewpoints were determined which will be taken into account in working out a new teaching plan for the Czechoslovak 8-year and 11-year general educational schools.
