One of the aims of studies at teacher training schools is to acquaint the teacher students with the theory of lesson planning and to teach them how to prepare a plan for a thematic whole and plans for individual lessons. By lessons planning we mean setting forth the ends to be achieved in the concrete conditions of a given lesson and pointing out the means of achieving these ends. The author describes how this question is presented in lectures on pedagogy and methodology, and he analyses the way lesson plans are prepared by those teachers with whom teacher students have their practice in teaching. So as to get future teachers to acquire deeper knowledge and skills for the preparation of lesson plans, it is necessary to tackle the following problems: 1) To go into greater depth in theoretically clarifying the problems involved in lesson planning, 2) to create such a system of theoretical instruction at teacher training institutions as to make the students acquire the necessary qualification in this field, 3) by means of co-operation between Teacher Training Colleges and teachers collaborating in the practical training of teacher students see to it that these teachers prepare their lesson plans in co-ordination with the theoretical instruction.
