The analytico-synthetic method currently used in elementary reading is suitable for a bad reader, too, because it combines improvement in the technique with comprehension. In addition to fulfilling all the usual didactic processes prescribed under this method, it is also necessary to meet, especially in case of bad readers, the following requirements:
1. to deduce letters in anticipation,
2. to train the children in making a precise distinction between the letters they often confuse,
3. to start early, through catenation, practising the perception of the first syllables as a whole before they are used in words,
4. to practise patiently the conveying of a syllable as part of a word, to avoid a hasty kind of synthesis,
5. not to stick to syllabification, and pro roach the each child, early diagnosis of the manner of reading, immediate ar at least timely aid to those children who are lagging behind,
6. to make automatic the reading of monosyllabic words and syllables of all types.
7. gradually to make automatic the reading of at least some disyllabic words as a counterweight to long-lasting syllabification,
8. to achieve a global manner of reading words with comprehension by using texts where the frequency of the same words is great, and isolated words of all types, from easier ones to more difficult ones, to be perceived as a whole.
In order to meet all these requirements, the observance of the following principles is absolutely necessary: individual appceed to the catenation of syllables as early as possible.
The teacher should also get acquainted with the modern theory of learning and use it in a creative way in his teaching practice.
