Research on programmed instruction by means of teaching machines and practical experiments with programmed instruction at elementary and secondary schools and universities are being carried out in all countries. They are connected with instruction in programming and the development in the field of computer science. Significant experiments in this respect are being made especially in the U. S. S. R., Hungary, the U. S. A., Great Britain and some other Western countries. Their realization is to a great extent dependent on the number of computers available in each of these countries. In Czechoslovakia, too, the development of programmed instruction by means of computers is determined by the number of computers available for current use in education. Experiments are being made mostly in the theoretical field rather than in the current school practice. It is to be expected that after the realization of the planned network of computers in education these experiments, too, will be given a practical basis.
